Mundesley Local Attractions and Things To Do

Beach

Mundesley has a lovely, sandy beach which has been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness. It is a great place for children to swim when the tide is out and the coloured beach huts add a pleasingly old-fashioned touch to the view.

Walks

The cliff top path is the obvious place to take advantage of the spectacular views and invigorating fresh air on offer here. However, there are other pretty walks around the area, with the area which was once the railway line and around the millpond particularly recommended.

All Saints Church

This pretty church possibly dates back to the 15th century, although it was comprehensively restored in the early 20th century. It is located very close to the cliff edge, coastal erosion gradually shifting it ever closer to the edge.

War Relics

There is a Mundesley Bomb Disposal War Memorial, which is a tribute to the sailors who worked to keep the North Sea safe from mines during the Second World War. There is also a bomb shelter, from the same war, which is located near the church.

Maritime Museum

A very small but nonetheless interesting museum which displays objects showing the area's long links with the sea and the work of the coastguards.

Stow Mill

This fine windmill lies a short walk to the south of the village. Built in 1826 and well restored in more recent times this is an excellent opportunity to see a fine example of a Norfolk flour mill. Entry to the mill is possible and there is small shop joined on to the mill building.

Adventure Island

This fun golf/putting course is ideal for some family fun, while the grass park next to it makes a great location for a relaxing picnic afterwards.

The village centre

Here you will see pleasant independent shops, old fashioned pubs and houses with thatched roofs and stone walls.

Mundesley Festival

August is time for the week long musical festival which the village has been hosting since the mid 1980s.

Mill Wheel

The River Mun which runs through town used to turn this large, 26ft wheel. The mill was torn down in the 1960s following a serious fire a few years earlier but the wheel remains, although the river no longer passes through it.

Nearby towns and villages

The market town of North Walsham is less than 15 minutes away by car. Here you will see the 16th century Market Cross and the fine St Nicholas Church. As well as the traditional market there are plenty of modern shopping facilities.

Approximately 12 miles from Mundesley are the villages of Wroxham and Hoveton which lie on the River Bure. This is regarded as the capital of the Broads district and there are plenty of tourism, shopping and family oriented activities on offer here.
